You are the Mayor of Ember!
Congratulations! You have just been elected as the new mayor of Ember. You will form a council to determine what is to be done about the current situation in Ember. Your council needs to discuss one of the challenges below and address just that challenge. Determine what you can do as a short-term solution and what your plan will be for a long-term solution for that challenge.
1. The power is constantly going out because the generator is falling apart.
2. The only light is available through lightbulbs and electricity, and there is a shortage of lightbulbs.
3. The storerooms are running out of (non-food) supplies such as paper, pencils, etc.
4. There is a shortage of food and difficulty growing food.
5. The Mayor is corrupt.
You will present your challenge, short-term solutions and long-term solutions orally to the class. When you are finished, you will write a paragraph on your blog addressing one challenge (pick any one you like), and providing the solutions to that challenge.

"The Instructions"
Your task is to complete a set of instructions informing someone from Ember how to do something that they won't know how to do.
Examples: - how to swim - how to harness a fire - how to ski - how to use solar panels - how to use a boat - how to turn on a computer - how to make a phone call - how to mail a letter using the postal system |
Choose one task (doesn't have to be from this list) and remember to choose something that you can expertly explain. Remember that instructions have the following:
- a title (what you are explaining) - the materials you need ("materials") - the place you will be performing your task ("location") - step-by-step instructions that use the language "step 1, "step 2" etc. - make sure to explain any vocabulary that could be unclear (ie. "skis", "postage stamp", "computer" etc.) Post your work on your blog. A fully meeting expectations list of instructions follows the check list above and will include every step, be free of grammatical errors and use hyperlinks and/or video to enhance the presentation. |
